Classic elements of Mexican design — strongly influenced by Indigenous and Spanish craft — are combined with an almost aggressive expanse of floral detail. Nature becomes culture, and our impulse to control the world is subsumed by a desire to emulate the kind of wild beauty that refuses regulation. Surrealist renderings enhance and alter our perspective. Technicolor cyan and azul blue are married with amaranthine purples and blood reds. We journey deeper into the forest of larger-than-life patterns and textures in search of greater mystery and imagination.

Perhaps we’ve finally figured out we are much closer to the earth than we dared realize; we find more of ourselves in its complex, sometimes chaotic, systems than we do in a world full of artificial boundaries and synthetic beauty.
