As the glow of “Radiant Orchid” – Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year – begins to fade, I’ve set my sights on something a bit more eccentric, a little bit cuckoo, you might say. I haven’t quite nailed down all the particulars yet, but I can tell you that I’ve had flamingos on the mind for quite some time. Assuming my sanity hasn’t flown the coop, when I experience this kind of repeat “attention-turning”, it means that I’m on to something.
It began with flamingos and has morphed into a fascination with bubblegum pink. I’ve fallen head over heels for Tim Walker’s photo of Simone Rocha (above)…What a smashing shade of Bubblicious, wouldn’t you agree? Makes me want to run over to the drugstore and pick up a pack just for old times’ sake. Incidentally, the editors over at Elle Magazine just tweeted their love for Rocha and Bubblegum this morning! What are the odds?! Also important to note, this color will be a big seller for menswear – particularly, sneakers, socks, shirts and sweaters. Early adopters among you, why not head over to Nike.com and get started custom-designing your own kicks. This kool-aid is way too good to pass up.
“High high in the hills, high in a pine tree bed.
She’s tracing the wind with that old hand, counting the clouds with that old chant,
Three geese in a flock
one flew east
one flew west
one flew over the cuckoo’s nest”
― Ken Kesey, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
