Welcome to 2015, dear readers!
Thought we’d kick off January with a note on stars and stripes, two important patterns for the upcoming year. While you may be wondering whether stars and stripes really ever go out of style, it’s important to take stock of the size and direction. Pinstripe suits for example: SO not happening right now. (Trust me, don’t go there). Thin, blue French-feeling stripes: very much a DO (now and always). This spring, we’re going to see different stripes (thick and thin, mostly horizontal) intermixed on the same garment. If you’re just new to the blog, you know I’ve been preaching about mixing your patterns, ad. nauseum. And stars and stripes are the newest prints to join this conversation.
Stars are a recent favorite of mine, somewhat derived from an urban cowboy motif that has captured fashion’s imagination (you can thank Chanel’s pre-fall 2014, “Back in Dallas” collection for this). The print showed up again in Tommy Hilfiger’s 2015 Spring RTW collection and has since found its way onto many a scarf and sweater. My preference, here? Opt for small stars and lots of ‘em. I added THIS BEAUTY to my wardrobe over the holiday and it’s already making the rounds 🙂
