In the fall of 1969, Andy Warhol and John Wilcock founded Interview Magazine. Also known as The Crystal Ball of Pop, Interview features an interdisciplinary mix of uncut interviews with some of the world’s biggest celebrities, artists, musicians, and creative thinkers. Warhol’s affectless style has lost none of its potency. We find remnants of his fascination with advertising in our obsession with AMC’s Mad Men; and we have unleashed his expression, “15 minutes of fame” in a relentless stream of reality tv shows. NARS cosmetics recently created a limited edition Andy Warhol collection; and Comme des Garçons, an Andy Warhol x Comme des Garçons capsule collection.
So what does The Crystal Ball of Pop report in 2013? We read about Sophia Coppola’s latest endeavor, The Bling Ring; we see a gilded Svetlana Khodchenkova on the cover of Russia’s latest edition; and we find the intriguing photo series, Grillz, which features the bejeweled bracelets of Louis Vuitton, Van Cleef & Arpels, Harry Winston and Bvlgari. As I predicted, Fashion’s Gilded Age has come to pass. Click HERE to see a mood board from the original forecast.
We’ve also seen an uncanny amount of gold on the runways this year. Altuzarra, Acne, Marc Jacobs, and L’Wren Scott have all paid homage. As the explosion of flower-child prints from the 60’s begins to wane, is 70’s disco fever next?
